Ältadalen Care Home
Our home affects our self-esteem, integrity and feeling of security. Ältadalen’s unique care home is going to be as natural and lovable as the home residents are leaving behind. The home is designed with the purpose of establishing a feeling of togetherness and encouraging bonds between residents, care workers, relatives and others. This is achieved, among other ways, by the building’s orientation towards the busy crossroads, the layout of facilities with a central common room, and a welcoming and generous entrance hall with direct access to the park and public amenities in the entrance area which is also open to the public for use.
The building has its starting point in the dual character of the setting and amplifies this through its design. To the north and west the building extends up to the roads and helps to delimit the road space with its longitudinal façades. The crossroads is energized by the entrance and public functions facing the street. Towards the south, the building opens up and creates, with the help of the surrounding topography and vegetation, a varied and naturally protected courtyard environment with two lush gardens directly adjoining the main common room.
