Investigation and concept sketch of Jakob Square
Client: AP fastigheter
Year: 2006

This investigation aims to present a center for research, study and culture that takes advantage of the multicultural and pluralistic setting that Stockholm provides. The proposed building springs from the conditions of the site in respect to sunlight conditions and the presence of active information flow. The proposal composes a configuration that enables the establishment of an active and public square while also contributing a modern architectural work to the city of Stockholm. The main part of building is placed underground and ties together the subway and various underground functions with the activity in the building, the street Jakobsgatan, and the surroundings. By sinking the main part of the building below ground the lighting conditions and the sunny areas of the site are preserved. The sections of the building that stand above ground are formed to cast the smallest possible shadow on the public square and adjacent properties. The angle of the roofs are chosen so as to draw in a maximum of sunlight to the public areas.
