Vitsippan nursing and care home

Vitsippan is a nursing and care home primarily providing services for dementia patients in Vaxholm. The plot for the home is presently public land located north of Eriksövägen on an elevation that slopes down to the pleasure boat harbour in Blynäsviken.

In the new plan, a public path is laid along the new building down to the water’s edge so that the local residents can walk down to the water in the future.

The building is large enough to accommodate 54 resident flats divided into six sections. Each section consists of 9 resident flats of 30m2. In addition to the flats, common resident areas, administrative offices and staff facilities can be found.

Nursing and care home facilities consist of a main building and an entrance building. The main building consists of two inversed L-shaped volumes where each volume houses one section per floor. The residence is adapted to the plot’s slope down to the water and the building is situated so that it includes two sunken gardens. The entrance building is of a smaller volume in the west part of the residence. Entrance to this building is via a covered arcade facing the southern garden.

In order to reduce the scale in relation to surrounding residential housing, the volume is adapted in terms of height and volume. The way the building adapts to the terrain gives a changing impression of its scale from different vantage points.
